چکیده

An efficient access to the contents provided through OGC web services, widely used in environmental information systems, is usually achieved by means of caching strategies. Service-owners may be interested in expressing the conditions required to allow for this. If these conditions are expressed in a machine-readable way, automatic harvesters can be programmed to follow them when caching those services. This paper proposes a protocol to specify and follow cache policies for OGC web services expressed in a machine-readable language. A preliminary implementation of this protocol has been tested in the EuroGeoSource project, where a number of Web Feature Services providing mineral deposits and energy resources are periodically harvested and cached to improve the efficiency and availability of several applications. The protocol addresses a nowadays common case, and can possibly be extended to allow for more detailed policies. Further work will help to determine how it could be integrated into a full Digital Rights Management system.

A model for specification, composition and verification of access control policies and its application to web services

Despite significant advances in the access control domain, requirements of new computational environments like web services still raise new challenges. Lack of appropriate method for specification of access control policies (ACPs), composition, verification and analysis of them have all made the access control in the composition of web services a complicated problem. In this paper, a new indepe...

Content-Infused OGC Web Services Enabling Dynamic Quality Assessment in Observing Systems

Over the past several years, many Open-Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web services (OWS) have been implemented to deliver observational data products that are well described and discoverable for machine-to-machine harvesting. The OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) framework enables a standardsbased means of fully describing sensor and processing provenance and lineage, providing a means to connect da...

Message Exchanges for Web Service-based Mapping Services

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) [1] defines a number of standards, both for data models and for online services, that has been widely adopted in the Geographical Information System (GIS) community. This has lead to a number of software development efforts, online data archives, and application communities. The emergence of Web Service technique overcomes the shortcoming of traditional Dist...

Assessment of OGC web processing services for REST principles

Recent distributed computing trends advocate the use of Representational State Transfer (REST) to alleviate the inherent complexity of the Web services standards in building service-oriented web applications. In this paper we focus on the particular case of geospatial services interfaced by the OGC Web Processing Service (WPS) specification in order to assess whether WPS-based geospatial servic...

SERVO - ACES Abstract

We describe our continuing work on implementing Open GIS Consortium (OGC) compatible Grid Services for the International Solid Earth Research Virtual Observatory. Our initial efforts focused on collecting Earthquake and GPS data from various sources, converting them to GML and enabling query capabilities using pure Web Services approach. We have extended this work by creating Web Services imple...
